Liz Stringer (Vic)

With a reputation for utterly captivating live shows and a string of albums already behind her, Liz Stringer has established herself as one of Melbourne’s most exciting and talented musicians. Described by the Herald Sun as “an old-fashioned, Springsteen-style storyteller with a soulful, mature voice”, Stringer combines intimate, complex narratives with haunting vocals to create unique contemporary roots music.

Troy Brady (Qld)

Welcome to the world of black Australia, through the eyes of a modern Yelanji song man. Described in America as "Outback Motown", this distinctly Australian, culturally vital & sonically powerful performer will impart his compelling blend of musical influences that sees the continuing of the song lines from iconic artist like "Archie Roach, Kev Camody & Bart Willouby to cement his place in Australian music history!!

Leah Flanagan (NSW)

If music is the food of love, then the recipe can be found in the life of singer Leah Flanagan. Born and raised in Darwin, the tropical muti-cultural capital of Australia’s Northern Territory, Leah has followed a career trajectory that has built her reputation as a striking live performer and inspired songwriter.

Thursday 20 November - Brian Campeau with Emma Anglesey

$15 BOOK TIX

Brian Campeau

These are the things people say about Brian:

"If there is any justice in the world... Brian's fan base should become a groundswell at any time... imaginative, witty and tongue in cheek..."

-the Brag

“It’s not just cos he’s easy on the eye, charming and shares his philosophical musings in that trademark deep rich voice. But because of his creative brilliance. The man is an artist. An experimental artist. His medium? Music.”

-        - Sin Mariani

“I hate him”

-Ex Girlfriends

Emma Anglesey

Transcending the ordinary, Emma’s music focuses on beginnings, and the untamed landscapes she connects with. Her music flows with a seductive rhythm and physicality that makes you want to move.

An earthiness fills her debut single ‘Bike’. The textured pulse of the song is interrupted by moments of clear breath – we feel the image of the artist reaching the top of the mountain, drawing in the air, wondering at the world. The same energy pushes through the percussive nature of the track, the rawness of Emma’s voice bringing us into a remoteness, an affinity with the wild.

“There’s this special thing that happens when you play a good song that people relate to. It’s like this two-way flow of energy – you go beyond all the unnecessary stuff, the daily grind, and tap into something special.”

Other performance highlights for 2014 include being billed along side Australian favourites Clare Bowditch and Tex Perkins at Festival of Voices in July, headlining Junction Arts Festival in September, and in November Emma will be supporting Guy Pearce on his national album launch tour.

This record is for all of us to enjoy, not just to play on your stereo. Whether this direction is relevant or not, is not something I am concerning myself with.  I love it and it makes me happy. I have enjoyed this writing/ recording process more than any musical experience to date.”

Time flies, and increasingly, so does Jack Carty.

It may have been four years since his debut EP Wine & Consequence and his unassuming arrival on the Australian music scene, but that's certainly not time misspent. Two full length albums - 2011's One Thousand Origami Birds and 2012's Break Your Own Heart — quickly followed, as did a collaborative EP with Sydney based man-of-mystery Casual Psychotic titled The Predictable Crisis Of Modern Life, showcasing a darker and more experimental side to Carty's writing away from his indie-folk roots.

Beyond the record releases, extensive touring nationally and internationally, festivals ensued, songs were added to soundtracks, the critical acclaim piled up, top five accolades in the APRA Professional Development Awards, SXSW and Canadian Music Week showcases and a MusicOz award were effortlessly added to his resume.

Now, following three solid years of travel, tours and no fixed address, Carty has finished a new album called "esk" grounded in ideas of process and time while sounding like an artist who knows exactly what he wants.Alongside the release of "esk" on September 26 Carty will be spending the latter part of the year treating listeners to his stunning live show with an extensive tour of Australia & New Zealand.

Wednesday 17 December - Yeshe & The Groove Wizards

$15 BOOK TIX

Hailed by the Sydney Morning Herald as “…groundbreaking roots musician…” and “sublime*****” by the Montreal Metro, German born 'genre bender' Yeshe is a true global musical gypsy, heavily inspired by his many years spent in Africa. His uplifting mesmerizing songs, transcending all labels and boundaries, have earned him growing respect and the love of a global audience.

A world traveller since his teens, Yeshe especially became interested in traditional African melodic instruments, in particular the ‘Mbira’ of the Shona people of Zimbabwe and the ‘Kamele Ngoni’ of the Bambara people of Burkina Faso (which both later became the centerpiece of his music), each time going straight to the source to immerse himself into the culture.

Since releasing two multi-award winning albums (including a BILLBOARD # 1) Yeshe has been in high demand on the international circuit, whilst also collaborating with Canadian Blues legend Harry Manx and most recently with Australian Roots icon Xavier Rudd amongst others.

His new band ‘The Groove Wizards’ features Malian guitarist Moussa Diakite (Salif Keita), James Haselwood  on bass and Calvin Welch on drums.
